Andreas Mikkelsen has been waiting a long to make a comeback in the World Rally Championship and he finally made his debut in Rally Portugal driving for Volkswagen Motorsport. Together with co-driver Mikku Markkula from Finland, the young Norwegian managed to clinch sixth place.

Had it not been for servo problems on the second day, he would have made fifth place.

“I am learning for every metre I drive and I still have some way to go until I can fully exploit the potential of the VW Polo R WRC. I have also learnt that Mikko and I have some work to do on our pace notes. They are far too detailed, especially in fast sections of the rally. But it is really great that I finally have the debut behind me. Now I can relax and look ahead,” Andreas says. He was also pleased that teammate Sebastien Ogier had won the race to extend his lead of the World Rally Championship.
