The Norwegian round of the World Rallycross Championship became a huge disappointment for Johan Kristoffersson and Volkswagen Team Sweden. A battery exchange made him a few minutes late and he was not allowed to start in the semi-finals.

Despite not being at his best in the qualifying heats, Johan Kristoffersson made it to the semi-finals in the eighth round of the 2015 World Rallycross Championship in Hell in northern Norway. But that was when the weekend took an unexpected turn – he never got to start.

“Just as we were about to head out to the start line of the semi-finals, the battery in Johan’s car was completely empty. We had to change it, but due to the fact that it is screwed on, we were a few minutes late. We would have been there half an hour before and we were there approximately 24,25 minutes before start and were not allowed to start” said team manager Tommy Kristoffersson with a heavy sigh.

“You obviously get disappointed. Considering all the work that goes into this – sponsors, partners, mechanics and so on – it is sad that insignificant details are allowed to decide the outcome.

Kristoffersson expressed his criticism before leaving Hell.

“I will not back off as much as an inch when it comes to my opinions. There are so many of us that tries to make this sport grow and it is acceptable to run things in this way. There are other situations where we, as a team, have had to stand back and have understanding for circumstances and similar issues. And that is exactly how it is and the reason why there must be some sort of human values.”

Johan Kristoffersson did not have the speed to interfere with the top drivers in the qualifying heats this time, but his position still was really good with a spot in the second row in the semi-finals.

“And as it unfolded, it was mainly about surviving to reach the final” said Tommy, who has great hopes that the development that the team currently is undergoing soon will give the desired result.

“We are constantly working on the development of the car and the material and we have been testing some stuff that we will benefit from in the future. We had hoped for a better result here in Norway, but at the same time the race showed that we are on the right track in our fight to take another step forward in terms of our performance.”

Unfortunately, the weekend’s result means that Johan Kristoffersson drops from third to fifth place in the overall World RX standings
