Engine failure ruined the weekend for Veiby

“This was a terribly low point. Extremely bitter! But it is a part of the game and I can’t prevent things like this from happening. Now I have to put this behind me and look forward” said the 19-year-old.

He traveled to the European Rallycross Championship round in Hell in northern Norway with a third place in the championship standings after two events. As it had been almost two months since last time he was behind the wheel of the rallycross car and had never driven the track in Hell, he was eager to see how long it would take until he felt comfortable in the car. But after the open practice, most things worked very well in the first qualifying heat. The European Rallycross Championship is combined with five of the World Rallycross Championship rounds and in the qualifying heats, the Euro RX drivers compete against the World RX drivers. In a heat with, amongst others, Petter Solberg and Mattias Ekström, Ole did really well and was only beaten by Petter. After this first heat, he was the fourth fastest Euro RX driver.

“It was a good start and I was optimistic going into the second qualifying heat. I felt that I now was familiar with the track and could fight even harder” he said.

Unfortunately, he faced a brutal ending of his home event. After jokering on the first lap, he quickly noticed that something was wrong with the engine and it did not take long until it stopped completely.

“No can do. During a season you are allowed to use three engines and this was my second. Now I just have to cross my fingers that the third engine can last in the two final Euro RX rounds in Spain and Italy in September and October. The original plan was actually to replace the engine before the last race in Italy” Ole explained.
