The Finnish duo were leading the event on Friday evening, but all of Saturday there where an exciting battle for seconds between Lappi and his team-colleague Latvala. At the end of the day Latvala’s drive came to an end after a technical problem, with Lappi and Ferm keeping the lead.

Still strong, calm and cool, they safely took home their first ever WRC victory after 4 nail-biting stages on Sunday.

After claiming his maiden victory after only four events in the Toyota Yaris WRC, Esapekka said this: – I’m not normally an emotional person but this is amazing. What a rally. I could never have imagined that we could get a result like this, so it’s a very big surprise. I have to say a big thank you to the team because they have built such a great car in a very short period.”
