Ole Christian Veiby was really excited before his debut in his new car at round 3 of the Swedish Rallycross Championship at Strängnäs. With a fourth place in his VW Polo Supercar he can relax a little before his debut in the World RallyCross Championship next weekend.

“The car runs great, and I feel comfortable driving in it. We also showed that we can maintain a good speed, so now I’m looking ahead,” the 18 year-old from Kongsvinger says.
Ole, who drives for the Norwegian Volkswagen Dealer Team KMS, did very well in the preliminary heats. With two of the third fastest times and a fifth fastest time, he qualified easily for the semi-final. Unfortunately, he had a bad start in the semi-final heat.

“It was entirely my fault,” he explains.

However, with patient and smart driving, he was the third car across the finishing line and qualified for the final.
In the final, he experienced yet another bad start, but this time it was not his fault.

“I don’t really know what happened. It seemed like the engine lost power for a second at the start.” Ole says.

Realising straight way that the final would also be a battle through the field, Ole managed to keep a cool head and drove well once again after a disappointing start. A place on the podium was almost within his grasp, but in the end proved too tough to reach, despite Ole lying close on the tail of Linus’ Westman, who took third place, for most of the final. Fourth place is still a good result for Ole’s debut in his new rallycross car. Ole is in fifth place overall.

“I know that this car has great potential and I know that this is going to be very good,” Ole says.

He was really pleased with his teammate, Johan Kristoffersson, winning his second RallyX round in a row.

“What a great result! Johan was in a class of his own in the final and it also confirms that the car is a winning car – although we still haven’t used its full potential yet,” he says.
There will be a big turn-out next weekend for the World RX Championship round at Høljes, just across the Swedish border in Flisa. Thousands of Norwegians will be there too and the race will be Ole’s World RX Championship debut.

“It’s going to be a great event. The competition is really tough, so it was good to complete a race in the new car – and at the same time confirm that this is a car I enjoy driving. I hope a lot of people will come and support us,” Ole says, who for the first time in his career will measure his strength against Petter Solberg and the rest of the world rallycross elite.
