Ole Christian Veiby showed some good progress and great pace at Tour de Corse, unfortunately an technical issue saw him drop out of the podium.

– If anyone had said to me before the rally that I would be the fastest WRC2 car on 4 stages, and second fastest on three stages, I would not believe it. I’m very proud to have been faster than my team-mate and tarmac-specialist Jan Kopecky on several stages, says a smiling Ole Christian Veiby.

Unfortunately, he had to settle for 4th in the overall WRC2 standings, due to an technical issue on the last stage on Saturday. During the stage the gear box got stuck in first gear and the Norwegian pairing lost more than 2 minutes.

– I cannot believe that happened, and it was very disappointing. I had to totally change my focus for the final day, and with only 55 seconds adrift of third I decided to give it a go.

Together with co-driver Stig Rune Skjærmoen he gave it everything on the final day and finished off with winning both stages.

– I pushed maximum from the start on the first stage to see if it was possible, and we were fastest through and closed in with 47 seconds on third place. That big push meant we were only 7 seconds behind a podium! We gave it all on the final stage, but in the end we were 1,8 second shy of a podium position. That is a bit disappointing, but nothing more to do about that now. We have so much positive to take home after this event, we have taken a huge step performance wise on tarmac, and I’m proud to be on Kopecky’s pace on tarmac.
