Esapekka Lappi clinched his first WRC 2 category win during Rally Portugal. The 22 year old from Finland, who drives for Skoda Motorsport, was best in his class together with co-driver Janne Ferm.

Only technical problems could prevent him from winning. A total of 11 minutes and 36 seconds separated first and second place – but being the cool and calm Finnish person he is; he was not letting the win go to his head.

“It wasn’t as easy as it looked. It’s a long rally and my first in Portugal and that’s never easy. But we’ve had a very good weekend. We pushed hard on Friday, struggled a bit with the pace notes on Saturday and then pushed again on Sunday. After that the gap was so great that we just drove in safety mode to reach the finish line,” he says.
