Leading the rally from the very first stage, Andreas Mikkelsen and Anders Jaeger drove in to victory today on the Mediterranean island of Corsica, winning the first asphalt event of the season, in their second outing with Skoda Motorsport.

– To win was the target and I’m very pleased that we did it, says Andreas.

He took the lead already from the first stage and continued with winning all of Friday stages. In the end he was 1 minute and 6 seconds ahead of the runner up. Overall in the rally, he took 7th place.

– We had a good fight going with Eric Camilli on the first stages, and I know he masters these roads very well. But then he made a mistake and was out of the fight. Continuing from there it was all about controlling the drive and secure the victory, he explains.

He admits that he drove with a safety margin, and there was no reason to take any risks.

– We did our job and we are very happy with the outcome. The conditions have been fabulous, even though there were a lot of gravel on the road, which forced us to be extra careful and prevented us from pushing more. I’m very grateful to Skoda Motorsport who gave us another opportunity for a drive in a great car, and I’m also happy to celebrate my WRC event number 80 with a good result!
