Andreas Mikkelsen and Anders Jæger were in a good third position, when they unfortunately rolled out of Rally Spain on day 2. – I basically came to fast in to a right hand corner, and that was it, the Norwegian explains.

It was a high speed hit, the car landed on the roof and the damage were too much to be repaired. That meant it was game over here in Spain for Andreas and Anders.

-It was a solid crash. We came too fast in to a right hand corner. We did the same stage in the morning loop, and for the second run I planned to push a little bit more. Unfortunately, this corner was not the one I thought I remembered coming up, explains Andreas. There was nothing he could do when the car drifted straight in to the barriers on the side of the road and got flipped up and around before they landed on the roof.

-Safety are important, we are very much secured inside the car, so Anders and I could just step out of the car uninjured afterwards. Sadly, the car was too damaged for us to continue here.

The Norwegian were in a close battle with Thierry when it happened, and holding third in the overall classification and ahead of Thierry Neuville. The retirement means Thierry will finish the event third and put them on joint points in the Championship standings.

-Now it will be even more interesting for the two remaining events, says Andreas. – We will have to finish even stronger in Wales Rally GB in a couple of weeks.
