Ole Christian Veiby got the opportunity to do the last World RX round in Argentina with short notice. The 19-year-old thanked the team for believing in him by showing a very solid drive during the weekend.

The Norwegian thought he was done with his motorsport season when he was asked to replace the injured Tord Linnerud in the last World RX round of the year. After finishing third in the European Rallycross Championship and second in the Junior World Rally Championship, this meant that the season was still not over.

It was very challenging conditions in Argentina. Saturday’s first two qualifying heats had to be postponed to Sunday due to dust, which led to poor visibility and was thereby a matter of safety for the drivers. Three qualifying heats were run on Sunday, while the fourth was cancelled. Even though it was a while since Ole’s last rallycross event, he showed solid driving in those three heats.

“In the first heat I was hit from behind and it eventually led to a puncture. In the second heat, I took the start and won my race and set a sixth fastest time overall. Also in the third heat I got a good start and won the race and had third time overall” he said.

Ole was in ninth place after the qualifying rounds and with that he was among the 12 drivers that moved on to the semi-finals. His teammate Johan Kristoffersson was 13th after the three heats, and after discussing it with the team, Ole chose to withdraw from the semis in order to let the Swede run. Kristoffersson fought for a spot on the overall championship podium and needed all the points he could get. Luckily he managed to secure third place, even though he did not make it to the final.

“That is how it works in this game, although it is sad that I did not get to do the semi-final and fight for the final. But at the same time it is great to see Johan score a trophy” said Ole, who is pleased with his race in Argentina.

“All in all, I’m very happy with my two race wins and that I qualified for the semis” he said.
