Johan Kristoffersson is usually seen in a rallycross car in the World RX, but during the weekend he switched from rallycross to rally when he made his Rally Sweden debut in the WRC 2 class.

The rallycross season starts in April and finishes in November and apart from tests during the season, most drivers don’t get much time behind the wheel, especially not during the winter. That is why Johan decided that some additional driving would not hurt and when EVEN Management offered him the chance to participate in Rally Sweden, he took it.

“I’m really thankful towards EVEN Management and everyone who has given me this opportunity to prepare for this year’s RX season. It might sound far-fetched that rally driving on snow and ice in the woods would give me an advantage in rallycross, which is usually driven on a track during the warmer part of the year, but it is actually great training. Just look at the reigning World RX champion Petter Solberg, who is not exactly unfamiliar with rallying. You get to practice speed, fast reactions, you get into ‘race mode’ and you get many kilometers of driving during the winter months when the World RX is not running” says Johan.

Johan did his first rally last year and to prepare for Rally Sweden, he has done another two rallies this year, among them a Norwegian championship rally in which he impressively enough took the victory in his class and finished fourth overall. Despite not having to perform on top, Johan had a clear goal for himself and his co-driver Patrik Barth ahead of the Swedish WRC event.

“I like to put a little pressure on myself. Our goal was to make it into top ten and that felt realistic. And we did make it even though our Skoda Fabia Super 2000 might not have been the most competitive car in the class. We had fun all the way and had a great progression with both driving and pacenotes. I definitely want to do this again and I hope that I will get to do a couple of rallies within the nearest future” says Johan.
